Liverpool Day 2

Hello again! It's been a few months but I am ready to finish out these vacation posts. Day 2: The Beatles Day!!!

As I reflect back on our trip I am blown away by my husband. Going to Liverpool and seeing so many important Beatles sights was so special to me. He was so generous and selfless to take me there and let this trip be something special for me. As I said before, this wasn't something he cared about. It wasn't an activity that was on his bucket list. But he gave this trip to me bc it was on mine. Thank you, Dan!!!

Ok. Moving on. Like I said, this was one of the days I was most excited about when we planned our trip. Everything Beatles day!

First we went to The Beatles Museum. And honestly I had VERY high hopes and expectations for it. I think if I went back I would enjoy it more the second time. I just wanted to feel like I was on Beatles overload. I wanted to learn a lot of things I didn't already know and just spend hours and hours filling my brain. The museum is really well done but it's just an quick overview of the band and their work. Of course. Who really wants to spend 10 hours at a museum (besides crazy people like me). There was however some really cool memorabilia! It was well done and now that I know what to expect I would enjoy it much more the second time!

After we spent the morning at the museum we walked along the docks. It was so fun!

A double decker "food truck" so amazing!

There are so many museums, food trucks, rides and other fun things on the piers! We had a great time walking along and eating lunch.

After lunch we went on a Beatles bus tour to see historic Beatle sights.

I was reaaaaaalllly nervous about this tour. I was afraid it would be disappointing and the one thing I looked forward to the most would be a flop. But Dan encouraged me to keep with my scheduled program and just give it a chance.

The first things we saw were Ringo's childhood homes. As soon as we saw this and the tour guide started talking I was mesmerized!

We got to see John's house where he was born

We drove down Penny Lane

It was so incredible to see the places in person that the song Penny Lane references!!! And we of course listened to the song as we drove through it!

We got to walk up to George's childhood home! It was so neat to see it!

Brian Epstein's family home. Beautiful!!!

We then drove to the place where John and Paul first met. A fellowship hall of a church. It was so special to see this in person!!!!

Across the street is the gravestone for Eleanor Rigby

It was about this time that the emotion started trying to come out. I had to literally force back tears. I did not want to be the fan girl crying (but on the inside I totally was. Thank you sunglasses for helping me keep it together). Haha. Such a nerd!!!

Strawberry Fields!

The house John grew up in!

The house Paul grew up in. Oh man by the time we got to Paul's house I was barely holding it together. The tour guide made a point of telling us that we walked along the same
route from our bus to the house and back that Paul would have done to get into the city to spend time with the other Beatles. Aaaahhhhhh!!! I will not cry. I will not cry.

We finished the tour by driving by the Beatles schools and a few sights around Liverpool and ending at The Cavern. The club where the Beatles played before they became famous.

A lot of big names in music have played at The Cavern and still do actually!

I was excited to go in and see it in person! They had a Beatles impersonation band playing which at first frustrated me. I just wanted to hear fun music and see the club. But after we got a drink and sat in the corner and relaxed I realized the ambiance was perfect. I could so easily imagine what it must have been like to have been there in the early 1960's. Which of course made me emotional again. Hahaha!! I never wanted to leave. It was so amazing. I'm so glad Dan didn't let me give up on that tour. It was all I hoped it would be and more. The tour guide obviously loves The Beatles and is so proud of his city. He had so many interesting facts and details to share. Seeing all of those places in person is just pure magic. I highly recommend that tour!

Liverpool was all I hoped it would be. I really love that city and it will be a memory I will never forget!
