I Should Have Known

This is one of those, "What was I thinking moments?. I should have known better."

We finally got our Christmas tree and decorations up in our house. We also have a few gifts from my grandparents and I thought I would put them under our tree. Saffryn watched me and we had a long discussion about not touching the presents.

After her quiet time I was trying to get ready for the day (Yes I sometimes get ready for the day in the afternoon, judge if you must). Pierce was still asleep so I thought it would be a good time. Saffryn watched me for a bit then ran off to her room to get something. I didn't think much of it...until she didn't come back. So I went looking for her and found her. She was surrounded by presents and wrapping paper. She had opened every one of them. I. Should. Have. Known.

After a tiny scolding (well she does need to learn to obey) and a few tears we went back to my room so I could finish getting ready. She runs off again and promptly returns with a new outfit she had unwrapped. "It Is SO cute." She says while holding it up. I try and keep a straight face and tell her to put it back under the tree where it belongs.

So once again she runs off, but doesn't return. So I once again go out to find her. And I find her in the living room with her clothes off and in the middle of putting her new outfit on. HaHaHa!

All I have to say is I should have known better! I seemed to forget that she was 2...and 2 year olds are not exactly known for their self-control!!!

So a word to the wiser than me: keep your Christmas gifts put away until you are ready for them to be opened. Otherwise your 2 year old will unwrap your present, the dog's present and anything else they can get their cute stubby fingers on!!!!

Wisdom

This past weekend we were at one of our friends' daughter's 2nd birthday party. (Not sure if I said that right)..anyway...while we were there I talked with my friends' mom (so that would be the little girls grandma...sheesh confusing).

Ok....let me get to the point. The last time she saw me was at the party last year and I was pregnant with little Pierce then. Here is our conversation:

Her: "So how is life with two?"
Me: "Harder than I was expecting!"
Her: "I remember! I always tell people 1 plus 1 does not equal 2.It is somehow more work than that."
Me: "Ahhh so true!!!! But really it is fun and it is getting easier all the time."
Her: "You know I had 2 girls and I always wish I had more."
Me: "REALLY?!?!"
Her: "Yes!!!! When the girls were young I didn't think that. I was so busy and it was a lot of work. But I have since always wished I had more. You will never regret having more children."

These precious words have really stuck with me this week. She is so right! You will never look back at your kids and wish you didn't have them. It may be work while they are little, but they are so beyond worth it.  I know she doesn't read this but I just wanted to say "Thanks for such great wisdom and for such a sweet and honest heart!!!!" I will carry these words with me for a while!

I'm 2

Can you believe this little cutie is 2!!!! (And I am only a month behind)

I had a really hard time getting her to cooperate for these pictures...this was the best I could get. LOL! OH well it is accurate representation of her life stage!

She was showing me how to "freeze" LOL!

Stats:

Weight: 26.8 lbs (52%)
Height: 35.5 inches (86%)
Wearing: 2T clothes 7 shoe

Language: This girl has turned into our parrot and repeats most EVRERYTHING! The scary part about it though is she seems to remember what she repeats and actually says it later in an appropriate context. Time for us to really monitor what we say. LOL! She is basically speaking in full sentences. She remembers so much.  She can count to 10. She knows her ABC's and is learning letter recognition, she knows all her colors and knows so many many songs! It is really fun to see her mind turning and her figure out a concept. Right now she is trying to figure out Christmas!!! She saw some decorations today and said, "Look momma its Christmas." Seriously this child blows me away!

Motor Skills: She is usually at a full on sprint most of the time. I am so not exaggerating and I think it is pretty typical of the age! She loves loves loves to climb and jump and will find ways to get that need met. The funny thing about her though is she is not only good at gross motor she is really good at fine motor things, too! We practiced threading beads at my mom's house and she is great at doing stickers, coloring, etc.

Self Help: This is a big one for us now!!! She can put all items of her clothes on by herself! That does mean that they can be on backwards and inside out. It also means that I dress her in one outfit for the day and she sneaks into her room and completely changes her outfit into something of her creation. LOL! What a capable and competent girl!

Potty Training: She is now wearing, "Big girl underwear"!!!! I am so proud of her. Potty training her has been such a breeze!!! She got the concept really easily and was motivated by getting to wear underwear and praise. She has only had a few accidents in the last several weeks. I put her in pull-ups during nap time and bed time because I think that is too much for her to handle and I don't want an accident to wake her up. She loves getting to choose what underwear she wears for the day and usually changes her mind half way through the day and picks another color. LOL. Hey, whatever works!

Likes/Dislikes: She loves music, animals (especially dogs), to sing and dance, watching movies, her friends (who she talks about ALL the time), her grandparents (Who she "calls" on her phone all the time), getting fancy, "Special drinks", candy, reading books, tickles, k-state football games, playing with balls, running and jumping. She does not like: holding still, taking pictures, not feeling in control, being by herself (I can totally relate), and many other things. She will actually tell me know, "I dont like that."

NapTime: Is basically non-existant at this point in time. If she sleeps that is the exception not the rule. At first I was really frustrated by this...I need a break!!!! Then I took some good advice from my MIL and make her have a quiet time in her room. I got her a little mini ihome for less than $20 and set some music on for her (between 30 min to 1 hour worth). Our deal is she can read books, play puzzles or do stickers while the music is going. When the music stops she can come out. So far it is working pretty well. She is currently listening to ABBA...her choice!

Personality: She is such a thinker and always has been! She is serious, introverted and can be quite shy. But don't let that fool you she is such a sweetie! She loves to be helpful and loving to all of us. She has an amazing sense of humor that keep Dan and I laughing all the time. Oh the things she comes up with!!! She really loves her brother and now tries to play with him...on her terms naturally! She loves to explore and get messy (wonder who she gets that from). She is VERY particular though and likes things to be in their proper place. She has strong ideas on what she wants and will not settle for anything less (which Dan and I love about her). She is so funny. I could write all day about her.

I can't believe she is two! AAAHHH. Time please slow down!

Thanksgiving

So for Thanksgiving this year we went out to Colorado and celebrated it with Dan's family. The kids and I actually went several days early and spent some time with my family before Thanksgiving. I really enjoyed seeing all the family. But all I have to say is: What. A. Week.

It was literally just one thing after another for us. Some were minor annoyances and other's were serious accidents...here are just a few of the "highlights"

-The kids both caught colds at the beginning of the week. Coughs, runny noses, congestion, clingy...

-The kids kept waking up every hour or two which meant I got almost literally no sleep

-Saffryn fell many times one landing on my mother's coffee table with her head. I was sure we would end up at the ER, but she ended up being ok

-Pierce choked on a sticker. When I say choke I mean the real deal. Was not breathing, bright red and I had to sweep his mouth to get it out....the most terrifying 15(ish) seconds of my life. I have never felt so helpless

-Crash tore his ACL on his other leg while playing

-After what seemed like the longest drive home (and one huge poopy explosion) we make it home only to have me finally catch the cold they both still have

Are you stressed and tired yet? Ya...me too!

It was a HARD week for us. But really it was fun seeing family. The kids really did well besides the colds, no sleep and accidents. Anyway here are a few pictures of some of the more fun moments of the trip.

Saffryn "helping" me pack for our trip. LOL. She is such a cutie!

Spoken Gems

Here are a few things Saffryn has recently said:

Me: Ahh Saffryn I'm pooped!
Saffryn to me: Not in your underwear momma!

Saffryn to me: I need some help T-Cup.

Me: What would you like for a snack today?
Saffryn: Umm...a burger!
Me: Well I don't have any burgers right now. How about some crackers?
Saffryn: I don't think so.
Me: Ok. How about some popcorn?
Saffryn: That would be fine.

Saffryn to Dan: Hey Hunny, where are you going?

Hahah! She is such a funny girl! As Dan says :Two year olds are a blast!!!!
