Cinderella

Today was a first for saffryn:

A theater production of Cinderella! Saffryn has never been to any type of music theater and was so excited for this.
Her Aunt Abbie set up a wonderful girls day for us! It was so fun to get all dressed up and go with some of our favorite ladies.
The play was wonderful. The music was beautiful and it was just very well done! It was so fun to see Saffryn get all excited about the show. She was just blown away by their singing and dancing and the little stage tricks! It was so so so cute seeing her love it!

After the play we got to sit down at a nice restaurant and eat dinner together. Saffryn got to order a soda and it came out in an actual glass with lemons and oranges on the side and her little face lit up! We felt so spoiled today!

Saffryn was so pooped and fell asleep on the way home! Dan said he knew she had a fun time because when she got in the door of the house she told him everything that happened in about 45 seconds. Hahahah!

Thanks so much for a fun and special day Abbie and Gigi! Saffryn and I will remember this forever!!!

Creepiest Things

Sometimes kids say the creepiest things...

Today at lunch Saffryn started asking about one of my family members who passed away over a year ago. We talked about her and her life and it was so sweet. It was all I could do to not cry. She was such a beautiful and wonderful lady and I loved talking about her to my children.

Then Saffryn starts asking questions about death and bodies after death. So we talk about creamation. She asks all kinds of questions and I try to be honest about all of it. She is just fascinated.

Saffryn: "Mom what other options are there for after you die?"
Me: "You can get buried in a coffin under the ground."
Saffryn: "Ok. What else?"
Me: "Nothing. Those are the only two options that I know of."
Saffryn in a very excited and eager voice: "OR we could keep it in the bathtub and wash it off!!!"

Omg girl. Omg.

I am still laughing about how weird and creepy that is. Why do kids have to be so creepy?!?!?! Hahahahahaha!

Monday

Today the kids had to draw a picture and create a story (we are doing an ocean unit right now if you couldn't guess by the stories). They make me smile!

Saffryn's:
The Little Fish and The Turtle

They were playing inside the turtle's house until they heard; "boom chee, boom chee". Then they were playing dollies and swimming around. They had fun. They had a very fun time. And it was time for the fish to go home. They were playing again.

Pierce's:

The Scuba Diver Jumping into the Dark Sea

The scuba diver went into the cave. And then the scuba diver found a bush. He touched it and it was pokey. Then he found a monster as he was heading to the cave. He found a fish and ate it in his mouth. He had so much fun. He swam back to the sand and layed down on his car.

I love these stories. It was all I could do not to laugh while writing them out for the kids!!!

Not so much fun was this guy screaming at me
Someday little buddy you will be doing the big kid things, too. And we can all be happy!

And just for fun
Mr. Colt eating ice on our bike ride after school work. It is so hot and humid here today! His poor little face was so red!

One more picture for good measure
Happy Monday!

I did it

Last week I posted this picture to facebook:
With a caption about how angry I was at my sewing machine. I could not figure out what I was doing wrong.

Okay let me back up. I have some super long curtains in my front living and dining room. They came with the house. They are beautiful but they drag on the ground and the kids get tangled up in them and it's just too much.
I mean seriously. Look how long they are! It has been driving me crazy! Anyway, a few Christmases ago I got a sewing machine from my sister and brother in law. I used it shortly after to make special bunny a blanket. Then I packed it away and moved and haven't used it since.

I wanted this long curtain problem solved and I thought maybe I could tackle it with my sewing machine! So, I pulled it out and couldn't remember anything!!!! I skimmed over the manual and got started. The stitches just wouldn't take and I tried and retried to figure it out. I was so frustrated.

Several of my crafty friends on facebook looked at my picture and gave me some tips as to what it could be. It took me over a week to get the gumption to try it again. Which now brings me to tonight!

I tried to mess with the tension setting and it made no difference at all in the stitches. I tried rethreading everything and that made no difference. I even replaced the needle and still nothing. So I YouTubed some sewing videos and while watching a woman rethread her machine I realized I have been threading the bobbin wrong! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhh! Rethreaded it and presto...worked perfectly! (Amazing how things work when you do them correctly. Sheesh).

Soooo. Now introducing my new and shortened curtains:

I am quite pleased! I know they aren't perfect but for my first major sewing project I think I did pretty well! Yay! Maybe I will end up being a crafty person afterall :)

Art Museum

My kids have been so interested in trains and for a long time have been asking to ride a train. Well the best I can do right now is the city trains! So I looked into it and decided we would take the train into downtown and stop at the Art Museum. We could spend a little time there (let's face it my four under six are not art buffs and won't be spending all day there) and eat some lunch and head back home!
So I strapped on baby boy and off to the train station we went!
They were so excited!
This is Saffryn's new hairstyle she likes to wear! It's pretty much amazing!!! Lol!
The boys were so serious on the train. So funny!

Once we got to our stop we realized the Art museum was about a ten minute walk. Not a big deal, just unexpected. And walking in a big city with for small children is a little nerve wracking!
But we made it!
They had a really great hands on section for kids! We will for sure be going back! We spent some time playing in the kids section and realized it was already 1 pm and way past lunch time. So we walked across the street and got some lunch. We needed to walk back to the train station but we ran into the cutest snow cone station and had to have some on the hot day!
It was an add your own flavor one! How fun!!!
Then we had to walk back to the station.
Little Max finally fell asleep!

Took the train back home! Phew!!! The day wasn't exactly how I invisioned it to be and we spent no time in the gallery part of the Art Museum. We just ran out of time and steam but the kids were so awesome! I was really proud of them! When I asked them their favorite part of the day:
-Saffryn said, "snow cones!"
-Pierce said, "getting food from the trucks!"
-Colt said, "riding the really big huge train!"

Hahah! I am pooped. Nap time!

Feet painting

We needed a fun art project today. I didn't really have anything planned or a lot of cool materials. So I went with old trusty. Paint. Then decided to change it up a bit and have them use their feet!
The kids thought this was such a blast! Thankfully Max wasn't interested in this project because that would have been very challenging!!! Lol!

The kids were great at helping me clean up the tiles that got some paint on it!

Pierce had a great idea of cutting some of the paper into smaller pieces for us to keep! If we come up with anything cool I will let you know!

This is a great way to get them prepped for our first trip to an art museum this week! Stay tuned :)
