Caught Red Handed

Sometimes after lunch when the kids are playing I may try and sneak a cookie or candy for myself. It is great because they don't get I am eating a treat I don't necessarily want them to have. A few times Saffryn will ask what I'm eating and I say "nothing" as innocently as I can. Then she asks me to open my mouth which I oblige because by that time my treat is gone and I say, "see nothing!" insert my evil laugh... Hehe

Yesterday after lunch I was craving some cookies (surprise, surprise). I told Saffryn and she was excited for the treat. After they came out of the oven I told her they had to cool off and told her to go play in the living room for a few minutes. Being a good girl she followed instructions. That left me alone with the cookies fresh out of the oven. Can I just admit I have no self control...and I ate one! As I was almost done chewing I walked to the living room.

Saffryn asks, "Mom, what are you eating."
Me, "Nothing...see." I open my mouth to show her...thinking I got away with it.
Saffryn, "Well what WERE you eating?"
Me, "Nothing..." while thinking uh oh she is getting much smarter...then she says very very sweetly...
S, "Mom, was it cookies or candy?"

What the heck!?!? How did she know that?!?! She figured me out. Bahahah. Guess I have someone to hold me accountable from now on. my candy sneaking days are over...probably for my own good!

I could not stop laughing! Such a smart girl!

Some Days

Some days are just tough. Really tough.

I could tell my children are getting tired of my lack of energy this week. They have been clingy, whiny and very unpleasant to say the least. So I decided to suck it up today and go outside and do some fun things with them.

When it was time to go in I noticed a paint can had tipped over. I guess the lid was not on tight enough and some paint had spilled. Seeing the disaster I gather the kids to go inside. Saffryn runs up the stairs and into the house. Pierce was following me up the stairs. As I reach the top I turn around and low and behold pierce is not behind me.

I hear him crying...I run to him and sure enough he has fallen into the big puddle of paint. How he got there in 1.5 seconds I will never know. He was trying to get up and managed to track paint in the garage. His shoes, shorts, legs, lovey blanket, hands and somehow mouth is covered in paint.

Oh dear. How do I even begin to clean this up.

I pick up Pierce before he can track anymore paint which gets me covered in paint. I take his clothes and shoes off and throw them in the sink to soak. I then put him in the tub (not to worry no water). I then try and clean the floor in the house so we don't ruin it. Thankfully that came up easily because it was still wet.

Then I rush to the tub where Pierce is trying to get out. Get him scrubbed off. Then have to wash the tub because it is now covered in paint. Then I have to wash Saffryn's hands and arms bc she thought she was helping clean up. I wash my hands and get Pierce dried off.

Then to the clothes in the sink. I managed to salvage his lovey blanket somehow! His shorts are completely ruined. His shoes have paint on them and look very worn but are still wearable. His shirt was also saved! Then I had to wash the clothes and towels and sink.

Then I had to get the kids distracted with something so I could go outside and finish cleaning up. Then outside with towels. I wiped up as best as I could then had to throw the towels away because they were ruined...no saving them.

Phew...

That did not help with my energy. I am pooped. I am sad his shirts and my clothes got ruined. I have had a long week and tough week.

Well what is a good story without a few pictures.

Here is a little peek of Pierce in the tub. I cropped it bc his private area was out for the world to see. But imagine his whole leg, tummy, arms and face looking like that.

The stairs going into the house after I cleaned them.

The spill after clean up.

Pierce's paint shoe prints.

Last view of the paint spill and prints.

Has anyone ever told you that having children will develop your character. They make you more patient, more selfless and more loving. It is tough along the way though...really tough.

The Boys' Room

The boys's room is done and ready! All we will have to do is put the letters up when we reveal his name (which the plan is still birth)! The nails are up and ready all we have to do is literally put the letters up. And it feels SO good. Here are the pictures!

Pierce's wall. Not much has changed except we decided to put the rocking chair there. It really didn't fit anywhere else. Oh and we had to change cribs for him. This was Saffryn's old crib which we had planned to use for the new baby but this crib has a really sharp corner and having next to the door where people come in and out was not going to work.

A view of the window and book shelf. I am not crazy about the orange on orange with the wall and shelf...but that is where it fit so that is where it shall stay. I have been REALLY tempted to paint the shelf a different color so it would pop, but I'm not sure if I have the energy. I am still thinking about it. If I do it will be the blue color I painted the shelf. Thoughts?

A picture of baby boy's side. Picture dark brown letters above the crib! I think it looks good. Kind of tight but cozy and lovely!

Sweet Crash never wants to be left out! A picture of the dresser and closet.

Well there you have it! I sure love checking off items on my to do list...if only I wouldn't keep adding more :p

Saffryn's Big Girl Room

Saffryn now has a big girl room! I think it turned out really cute. She likes it and that is most important! Also kind of important is the fact that our baby boy now has a place to rest his head when he makes his grand entrance....but more on that later. Now the reveal!

Her big girl bed!

A close up of the bed frame and picture she picked out! And yes she really did pick this out herself :)

A close up of the picture.

A better picture of her bed comforter and pillows!

This is where her toy (bow) holder used to be. I made those braids to hold her bows! I think they turned out cute.

Book shelf and bow holder.

Dresser that hasn't changed much. Notice the bunny clock?

Other side of the window which also hasn't changed much!

We are so proud of our big girl! She has handled this change like a champ. After the first night she came out of her room and asked, "Did baby brother come out?" she knew that's why she had to get a new bed. Sweet baby!!!

The Bunny Clock

I'm not sure how much of this I have talked about on here but ever since about 16 months Saffryn has struggled with and fought nap time. For a while it was hit or miss then around 2 she just flat out told me she wasn't taking naps anymore. And that is exactly what happened. I tried everything to help her sleep. I mean everything I could think of. Nope. No sleep. Every once in a while she would sleep and I would desperately try and figure out the common thread that would help nap time actually happen.

Well after lots of tries and frustrations I finally gave up. My mother in law recommended that I still keep a quiet time for her though. I thought that was a great idea so I tried to enforce quiet time. That was tough. At first I would play music and when the music stopped she could come out. Well she then stared messing with the music. So that didn't work. I thought about setting a timer but on the off chance she actually fell asleep that would wake her up and completely defeat the purpose. So I had her go in her room and I told her I would get her when quiet time was over. Of course this was hard for her. How could she tell the difference between 5 minutes and 45 minutes?

And it is not like she didn't need the sleep. Afternoon and evenings were very hard. Lots of tantrums. It was hard for her to regulate her emotions because she was so tired. I would make her go to bed really early and she would just crash out.

Well on the recommendation of my friend we tried something new.

Meet The Bunny Clock:

This is a sleep clock for children. It's hard to tell in this picture but there is a back light behind each of the pictures. You then program it like an alarm clock, but instead of an alarm going off the picture switches. So when it is nap time I switch it to the bunny asleep and it is programmed to wake up at 2pm. So the picture will switch from bunny sleeping to bunny awake and on the go. The same at bedtime the bunny sleeps in the evening and at 6:45am it is programmed to wake up.

The first few days after we got it Saffryn really didn't understand it. She fought it and challenged it and was confused. I was pretty discouraged. Ugh....why did I spend money on another thing that isn't going to work. But my friend encouraged me to stay very consistent and positive and she will figure it out.
So fast forward and we have had it about 2 weeks and she has figured it out! It is such a concrete thing for her. Either bunny is asleep and she needs to be in bed or bunny is awake and she can play. After a few reminders she has taken control of the situation. In fact it gets better...she has taken a nap almost everyday. Let me repeat that....SHE HAS TAKEN A NAP ALMOST EVERY DAY!!!!! Even during the days she hasn't slept she has stayed in her room until bunny wakes up. You know what this means???? I get to take a little nap. Let me repeat myself....I GET A BREAK!!!!!!

It has made such a difference in our days. She is so pleasant in the evenings. She is eating better at night because she is not so exhausted. She is really proud of herself and always tells me when the bunny wakes up. We call it her big girl clock. She has started noticing other clocks which I think is pretty cool. It has been so so wonderful!

Please God bless the makers of this clock. Like a lot a lot. They deserve it and have helped our days and encouraged me so much!

So if you have a kid who struggles with nap time or bedtime I would HIGHLY recommend this. Don't be surprised if it takes a week or so for them to get it. But if you stay consistent and give very gentle reminders maybe they can get it too!

And So It Begins

Last night while eating out with the family...

Random lady (with big smile on her face): how far along are you?
Me: seven months
RL (with a look of shock): oh. I thought you were going to say 9 months. You look like you are about to blow.
Me: ya...well I feel pretty big...(while thinking...interesting choice on the word blow..lol).
RL awkwardly walks away

LOL!

And so begins the comments about my tummy from random strangers for the next 2 months. My personal favorite is...are you sure there is only one in there...yup. pretty sure. But now I feel awesome so thanks for that!

That's ok. Its mostly funny. And I am doing my countdown dance everyday. 11(ish) more weeks...come on time go quickly! Come on baby boy make your way out soon, like in 9 weeks...that would be perfect!

Hello 3rd Trimester

Welcome welcome 3rd trimester! I am SO glad to see you!!! Please go by quickly because I am very ready to meet my little boy. Also please do not bring any more stretch marks, heartburn, insomnia or overall sore body....I already have plenty of that. :)

Here is a pic of my 27th week! I am not so sure how I am going to fit 12ish more weeks of baby in my tummy...as you can see I am plenty big!

I have gotten a lot ready for the baby. I just ordered Saffryn a new mattress and bedspread that will come this week! Yay for big girl things! She is so excited. Pictures will come when it is all set up. Also I have washed and hung all of baby boys clothes! Woo go me! Also we have the letters for his name ready to go...nails are in the wall. The crib is ready to be moved when Saffryn's stuff comes in. All that will be left for me to do is wash the car seat, pack n play and swing and pack the hospital bags! It feels great and will feel better in a week or so when the rooms are done! Here is a picture of the organized closet in the boys room!

The "big" boy clothes are at the top...aka Pierce's and baby boys clothes are at the bottom. I got that little black organizer for diapers, burp cloths and blankets!

This is a picture of the shelf on baby boys side of the room. We got these picture frames just for him! I thought they were so cute...they don't really go with the dog theme but I love them anyway!

Here is another picture of this growing baby! Only a little over 12 weeks left! Aaahhhh!!!!

Vacation

We just got home from our family vacation to South Carolina! We met all of Dan's family out there! I did a horrible job of taking pictures this trip. Not too sure why. We spent the week with family, going to the beach, riding on the boat, swimming, eating, the park and just having fun. Unfortunately I didn't feel very good most of the week. But despite that we all had a great time. The kids did SO good. They got a good schedule after the first few days and played hard and slept hard! Here are a few of the pictures I actually took.

Pierce playing on the swing at the park!

Dan pushing Saffryn scary high....dads are good at that!

Uncle Brian, Pierce, Saffryn and Papa playing together!

Saffryn's first time on the boat!

Daddy and Saffryn riding on the boat together.

Following the leader with Aunt Meredith!

Playing with Aunt Meredith!

Going on a wagon ride together!

Playing on the tree fort at the park with daddy.

Pooped!

I forgot to mention how well the kids did on the plane! It was seriously the easiest part of the trip!!! I was so proud of both of them! Such great little travelers!
